The G5 Meets with Tinubu

A group of five politicians known as the Integrity Group met with President Bola Tinubu on Thursday amid rumours that they might switch to the ruling party.

However, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo said they only went to update President Tinubu on the current situation and their position on fairness, equity and justice in the country.

Makinde, who was accompanied by the other four members of the group who are former governors, also admitted that building a nation is a challenging task that requires constant assessment.

He said the G-5, the Integrity Group, would continue to consult with the President on the best way forward for the country.

“Building a nation is a very challenging task. You have to keep reviewing, you know what you’re doing, where you’re going. So, we have to keep visiting the President, you know, to inform him of what is going on.

“The G-5, the Integrity Group, came to let the President know what we stand for fairness, justice, and equity,” Seyi Makinde told State House reporters after the private meeting.

This is the third time in a week that the Oyo Governor has visited Tinubu with some members of the group.

Four former governors from the party were also at the meeting with Makinde. They are former Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).

The current governor of Enugu, Peter Mbah was also there, according to Channels Television report.

The G5 consists of dissatisfied politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who opposed the selection of PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the previous elections and supported the return of power to Southern Nigeria.
